BrittlenessAs the entire process of managing holistically was being developed, four key insights were revealed. Three of them became obvious to Allan Savory early in his career. The fourth, and most important, took much longer to become apparent.
The first key insight was understanding why nature responded differently to the use of the same tool in different locations. Over time Allan came to understand the concept that he has since coined the term brittleness to describe. It is all about the evenness of spread of atmospheric humidity throughout a year. It is measured on a continuum from 1 to 10, where 1 is Non-brittle tending—a rainforest that is humid every day, and 10 is Brittle tending—a true desert that is dry every day of the year.
